Our Story
Founded in 1998 by Emmanuel and Atinuke Ogunsalu, Queensway Restaurant is a proudly family-owned African-Caribbean restaurant rooted in tradition, culture, and community. What began in Riverdale Plaza, Maryland, has grown into one of Prince George's County's most beloved destinations for authentic West African cuisine.
For more than two decades, Queensway has been dedicated to serving freshly prepared meals inspired by the rich culinary heritage of Nigeria and the Caribbean. Under the leadership of Chef Tinu — whose experience includes work with renowned international hospitality brands such as Hyatt Regency and Sofitel Hotels — Queensway has built a reputation for flavorful, healthy, and authentic cuisine made with care.
From intimate family dinners to weddings, naming ceremonies, birthdays, and corporate events, Queensway has proudly catered countless special occasions throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We are also known for our signature healthy beverages, including our refreshing Zobo and Ginger drinks, crafted with wellness and tradition in mind.
Queensway's excellence has earned national recognition. In 2017, the restaurant won the highly celebrated Jollof Festival in Washington, DC, earning the prestigious title of "Jollof King" for its classic sweet and flavorful Nigerian Jollof Rice. In 2019, Queensway once again claimed the title of Jollof King in the Washington metropolitan area — a testament to the consistency, quality, and passion behind every dish we serve.
Beyond food, Queensway has always believed in community. Over the years, we have supported local families, community initiatives, and charitable efforts by providing meals and giving back to those in need. We believe food is more than nourishment — it is comfort, connection, culture, and love.
